Private Thoughts, 1862-1865.

Collection of letters from Christopher Wetsel, a Civil War soldier, to his family in McDonough County, Illinois. Wetsel joined the 84th Illinois Infantry Volunteers, Company F, in 1862. Letters describe camp life and battles, as well as thoughts on morality, religion, and the high cost of the war for the South. Included are photocopies of handwritten letters, as well as a bound typescript of the letters. The typescript, entitled "Private Thoughts," includes explanatory notes and a brief summary of the letters.
